It didn't look like a good start for Peil this year. He opened the
season with a tie with AB. He beat up CZ and Talbot as he should and scarred
Wallace's perfect record with a surprise tie on Monday night thanks to one
of Wallace's old faves, kicker Mike Hollis. After six weeks, he was 2-2-2.
The seventh week was the turning point for Peil. Minnesota made a change
at QB. They benched the ineffective Randall Cunningham and replaced him
with Jeff George. The net effect on Peil wasn't more wins. He pretty
much clipped along at .500, but a dramtic increase in scoring. In week 7,
he scored over 40 for the first time with a win over Stroupe. Then he began
winning the shootouts, 48-40 over Outlaw, 48-41 over the Mo-ha 54-44 over AB.
Peil had a shot of winning the East divsion on the final weekend. He scored
38 points, but JK had 60. Still, the points that Peil produced got him into
the playoffs, but it was in doubt. If Barry had won on the Monday night in week
14, he would have sent the Mo-ha into a points slot and Peil out of the playoffs.
In the playoffs, seventh seeded
Peil ran up against red hot Best. He lost 45-32, but did
get some action on Monday night to make it some interesting.
